ONMB Convention 2018

On February 23-24 just over 150 Ontario MB pastors and leaders gathered at the new location of Behta Darya Community Church in Mississauga for the 87th annual convention of the Ontario Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. A worship celebration opened up the convention including a special dance preformed by the BDCC Dance Crew. Randy Friesen, General Director of MB Mission, challenged us to think differently. Randy spoke about being on one mission; locally, nationally, globally and reminded us that all mission is local for someone.

Saturday morning we heard from the ONMB Executive Director, Ed Willms, who asked the question “so what?” as it relates to being a part of a larger denominational family. With an emphasis on team, Ed reminded us that we can do more when we are together than if we are on our own.  Ed highlighted many ON upcoming initiatives including Leaders Collective, the New Provincial/National Collaborative Model, a First Nations Ministry Tour scheduled for the end of May, a partnership with Quebec and Maritimes, as well as how the ONMB Leadership team is working to improve communication by visiting with church boards over the next two years.  We can do more when we are together.

Many leaders and participants experienced a sense of togetherness that was modelled by our leaders. Many expressed how grateful they were to be there and connect with many other leaders they don’t see on a regular basis. We are very thankful to Behta Darya Community Church for their hard work in preparing their new building for this great event.
