Reflections: Chapter 7, “TOV Churches Nurture Grace”
It feels much easier to be a church teaching the doctrines of grace; it is another to be a church with a culture of grace. I never cease to amaze myself: how often do I taste the sweetness of God’s grace working in and through me only to grow proud and feel superior to others. The religious spirit is a pernicious one! When God’s grace is truly internalized and appreciated, should it not lead us in ways of being that are characterized by humility, gentleness, and patience? May our churches not only teach gospel truth, but may grace be the animating reality of the culture of our churches!
