“The only way out is through.” – Helen Keller

I happened to see Avery doodling in church the other day.  She had drawn a group of people all with sad, crying faces.  When I asked her about it she curled up on my lap and through tears said she missed Opa.  The truth is we are all missing him.  It’s hard to believe he’s really gone.  I would love for us all to be able to take a shortcut through processing the pain of losing Dad.  But we know there are no short cuts to healing.  Our comfort is that we do not go through this alone.  We feel the peace of Jesus.  We feel the love of so many.  So, resolutely, through we go.

On January 5th, with many mixed emotions, we boarded yet another plane for our return to Burundi.  Upon arrival, we were welcomed by the wonderful, warm Burundian sunshine and the smiling faces of the Schulz’s.  We continue to process these past few weeks together with them and our community here.

For this past week Doug was able to teach at the Harvest School of Mission in Muramvya.  Fifteen students, from around the country, gather together for a week each month, seeking to answer the call of God on their lives.  It was so encouraging to see these students responding to God as Father and finding their identity in Him.  So many have earthly fathers who are absent or unengaged or, for many, not alive.  Embracing God as Father is foundational to answering the call on their lives.  We thank God for the way he is moving in the lives of the students!

Last week the students at the Harvest Primary School received new school uniforms,
backpacks and flip flops (sweaters still to come!). Thank you to all who contributed to
this Christmas Giving Project!   The students were very excited to receive their
uniforms and loved the colourful bags.

Pray with us…

  • Ask the Lord of the Harvest to continue to fan into flame an ever bigger harvest.  We continue to pray that Burundi would be a light to the nations!
  • This week, Doug will be helping lead a gathering in Kenya of all of our leaders from around Africa.  Pray for unity and a move of the Holy Spirit as we gather.  Pray for fresh understanding of our call to heal a broken world.
  • Pray for Deanna and the girls as they remain in Burundi and as Deanna continues to work with the school.

Thank you so much for praying with us and for us.

Love Doug and Deanna
Maddy, Keza and Avery
